Thoughts for October, Pastor Michael

As I sit here wondering what it is that I will write about, I hear my daughter playing the guitar and singing in the background. The song she happens to be singing right now is the hymn, “How Great Thou Art.” And I know what it is that I am going to write about, how great God is.

Looking back on the month of September I can see so many ways in which God has proved Himself over and over again to be the One who is truly great. I think about the fabulous installation service that we got to enjoy and all the marvelous ways in which so many of you made that service a blessing to all who were there. I think about the many times I was able to meet with groups and individuals and hear more stories of God showing up in our lives and extending His greatness to us. I think about the incidences of God’s protection and provision in our lives.

But more than that, I think about God Himself, and His greatness. He truly is great. Not for what He does for us, not for what He gives us or how He protects us, but just for who He is… the great and mighty and awesome God. The One of whom is it written that there is no God like Him, that none can compare to our God. No one even comes close! In fact, I don’t believe that we can even grasp how great God really is. He is above all, He is before all, and all things hold together in Him. Think about that… without God, there is nothing… without God there is nobody. Without God…That’s a chilling and unhappy thought. Thankfully though, God is! God is! Undeniably, unequivocally, uncontrollably, God is! In Revelation 4:11 we read of the living creatures praising God and worshipping Him saying,

You are worthy, our Lord and God,

to receive glory and honor and power,

for you created all things,

and by your will they were created

and have their being.”

Let us join with them in worship; that is something to sing about! God, how great Thou art!
